RFP Response Roundtable Procurement Experts Divulge Best Practice Tips

RFP RESPONSE ROUNDTABLE: PROCUREMENT EXPERTS DIVULGE BEST PRACTICE TIPS Have you handled the world’s biggest client? The U.S. government is the biggest single buyer of merchandise and ventures on the planet, granting roughly $500 billion in gets each year. What's more, the legislature isn’t just keen on contracting with large organizations. Most government offices put in a safe spot a level of their acquisitions for independent companies, now and again concentrating on explicit assignments like: ladies possessed private companies (WOSB), administration crippled veteran-claimed independent ventures (SDVOSB), and independent ventures that are situated in generally underutilized business zones (HUBZone). Truth be told, 23 percent of all prime government contract dollars (totaling over $90 billion yearly) are coordinated to private companies. Be that as it may, you need to pay some dues to get a portion of those billions. The administration contracting process is famously overflowing with legalese and formality. Perusing a complex RFP is testing enough, yet making a well-spoken reaction that tends to all focuses can appear stunning undoubtedly. Thus, we’ve gathered together a board of specialists to help slice through the language (likewise observe the glossary at the base of this post). We met experienced acquirement experts to decide the intricate details of composing a show-halting RFP reaction. They imparted insights on the best way to get your RFP reaction saw just as practices ensured to land your proposition straight in the waste canister. Meet the Experts Kyla Moore is an agreements pro for the State of Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Brett Cook is an agreement pro for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Kelly Porter is Senior Multimodal Planner at Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. Lourdes Coss is an acquisition proficient with more than 25 years of experience, and the creator of Procurement Methods: Effective Techniques. Beth Morley showed courses in Business Communication and Advanced Business Communication at the University of Texas at Dallas, inside the Naveen Jindal School of Management. Ditty Wilson is Director of Procurement for the State of Connecticut Department of Administrative Services. Q: What are things you like to find in a proposition? Kyla: Well planned, proficient recommendations will in general outwardly stick out. Nonetheless, that doesn’t consistently mean they contain the best substance or are most appropriate to offer the types of assistance mentioned in the RFP. At long last, the recommendation that best meets the necessities and is generally beneficial to the State will be proclaimed fruitful. Kelly: All undertakings were tended to in the proposition reaction and an extraordinary methodology is obviously verbalized. Clear spending plan with staff time assignments, venture course of events, and an official synopsis. Brett: A RFP reaction that stands apart from the group is one that most importantly has followed the â€Å"Instructions to Offerors† cautiously. Numerous organizations disregard the directions on what precisely they have to remember for their reaction. Likewise a reaction that looks proficient, composed, and one that is anything but difficult to explore (chapter by chapter list, clear segment headings, and so forth.). I for one prefer to see a company’s value quote separate from the specialized proposition while submitting reactions electronically. Beth: When reacting to RFPs all in all, ensure you do essential things like spell the organization name right and set aside the effort to disclose to them that you comprehend their concern. Ensure it’s customized and redid to their specific issue. Show skill in their industry and that you’re not simply giving conventional answers for the issue. Tune: Some organizations have it together and present their data in a truly composed configuration. You can tell they read the RFP, got it, and are responsive. They took as much time as is needed in understanding it and comprehending what they have to give. Q: What are things that land a proposition in the reject heap? Kyla: Late recommendations are the greatest reason for dismissal in our organization. Also, fragmented recommendations might be considered non-responsive. Kelly: When a proposition is non-responsive or does exclude required documentation. We follow our proposition position rules intently. Brett: Mistakes, for example, not tending to the entirety of the assessment factors, not marking and recognizing all revisions to the requesting, and submitting reactions after the predefined due date and time, all send the proposition to the reject heap. Lourdes: Disorganized recommendations since that powers the board of trustees to invest a ton of energy making sense of it so they could be somewhat baffled. Canned recommendations that are so broad you can tell that no idea was placed into it. Once in a while people utilize a formerly submitted proposition and neglect to change the name of the office †this shows an absence of scrupulousness. Deficient proposition where they don’t present the entirety of the necessary structures. Q: What are the greatest slip-ups you’ve seen organizations make? Beth: You need to follow headings since [government agencies] will exclude you for any easily overlooked detail you miss. Whatever their prerequisites, ensure you’ve ticked off every thing and follow their particular configuration. Don’t get excessively verbal. Take a gander at the way you’re arranging your proposition so you don’t give them a novella. Song: If the RFP incorporates an example contract, read that, as well, to ensure you can consent to the terms and conditions. A few organizations simply take a gander at the value timetable and skim over the terms and conditions, which can prompt issues. This is as a rule because of an absence of perusing. Lourdes: Sometimes [companies] are stressed over gathering the rules on money related limit or don’t have all their monetary data all together, so they don’t present the necessary budgetary data. Here’s a recommendation: [Rather than forgetting about the data altogether], state, â€Å"We’re secretly held,† offer a proportion for your absolute resources, and include, â€Å"If you need more data, you’re welcome to arrange a gathering with us, and we’ll show you our space.† Q: What are contractual workers generally befuddled about in the RFP procedure? Kyla: The inquiry I will in general observe regularly is from free specialists requesting that how speak to their group structure as well as interior controls. This piece of our proposition requests that the merchant give a portrayal of the proposed venture group structure and inside controls to be utilized over the span of the task. Numerous autonomous specialists are confounded by this part since they are the sole individual giving the errand. We propose that they just distinguish themselves as a sole owner that will offer a wide range of assistance recorded in the acquirement, if that is the situation. Brett: Many organizations need to meet with contracting officials or end clients at the emergency clinic in regards to explicit up and coming necessities. We can't talk about points of interest before a sales is posted openly on either FBO or GSA. This maintains certain organizations from having an out of line advantage when reacting to sales. The best thing an organization can do is to see requesting postings day by day on GSA or FBO to check whether there are necessities they are equipped for reacting to. Likewise, numerous private companies don't have the foggiest idea about the most ideal approach to get their foot in the entryway with the administration. The best initial steps independent companies can take is to visit the Small Business Administration’s site, SBA.gov, or contact their neighborhood government agency’s contracting office to check whether they can address their Small Business Liaison. Lourdes: [Companies] experience difficulty deciphering phrasing. These structures are frequently drafted with legalese, not business language. As acquirement authorities, we advocate for less difficult dialect yet now and again it must be composed a specific way. Obtainment authorities experience difficulty with structures that are rounded out mistakenly or deficiently. Tune: Government doesnt make it simple. I was in private obtainment for a long time before I came here. The procedures are the equivalent yet it’s distinctive in government in view of the considerable number of laws the lawyers execute in the agreement. In Connecticut, our fundamental agreement is more than 30 pages in length. It scares private ventures to take a gander at that without recruiting a legal advisor. In each state there’s a PTAC, a Procurement Technical Assistance Center, financed by the state and government. While I cannot enable a seller to react to a RFP, these focuses can assist them with composing and react better. Q: What should organizations do when a RFI is given? Lourdes: This is your chance to offer techniques without uncovering corporate insider facts. The office most likely hasn’t even defined the issue. You can introduce instances of innovation that you’ve actualized elsewhere, and this helps the office in their manner of thinking as they’re building up the RFP prerequisites. This permits you to situate yourself to make your innovation and your items progressively attractive. You put yourself in a superior position in the event that you make the most of this review opportunity and react to the RFI. Ditty: For a RFI, [government agencies] simply need data. [RFIs] dont end up as an honor, so simply share what you have, so we can gain from you and your item or administration. This empowers us to be better taught. Q: Tips for Women-or Minority-Owned or Economically Disadvantaged Small Businesses? Lourdes: The set asides for these are typically littler activities, routine undertakings that are not prominent. In any case, it could be a multi-year contract. Some of the time these gatherings go past the extent of the RFP and wind up being too [costly], making them less serious. Rather than evaluating a Cadillac, cost inside the extension. Pose inquiries to explain the degree. At that point on the off chance that you have â€Å"value added,† you can value that independently. Hymn: In Connecticut, we put in a safe spot 25% for little

But theres no such thing as a healthy smoking option, and hookah smoking can be just asâ€"if not moreâ€"dangerous as cigarette smoking. Illustration by Brianna Gilmartin, Verywell What Is Hookah? A  hookah is a water pipe that is used to smoke sweetened and flavored tobacco. Other names for hookah are narghile, argileh, shisha, hubble-bubble, and Goza. The pipe is usually quite large and consists of a water chamber, a tobacco chamber, and one  or more flexible tubes stemming from it that allow multiple smokers  to inhale at the same time. Hookah tobacco is often sweetened with molasses, fruit pulp, or honey, with additional flavor added like coconut, fruit flavors, mint, or coffee. These flavorings sweeten the taste and aroma of the  tobacco, making it especially appealing to young people.?? Hookah pipes have been in use for about 400 years, originating in India and Asia. In the early 1600s, Hakim Abdul Fath, a physician from India, invented the hookah, mistakenly believing the health hazards of tobacco smoke would be minimized by passing it through water before inhalation. In the 1990s, flavored tobacco became popular in the Eastern Mediterranean countries, and hookah use grew from there to eventually spread around the world. How the Hookah Works The tobacco chamber in a hookah consists of a bowl containing burning charcoal that is placed on top of the flavored tobacco. Charcoal is separated from tobacco by perforated aluminum foil. As the charcoal heats the tobacco below, smoke is created. When users draw on the stem (hose) of the hookah, the smoke is pulled through the water chamber, cooling it before being inhaled into the lungs. Toxins in Hookah It is a common misconception that smoking from a hookah removes  nicotine  and other  toxins from the tobacco.  While water-cooled smoke is less harsh on delicate lung tissue, the toxicity of the smoke is unchanged and the cancer-causing chemicals present in the hookah tobacco are not filtered out by this process.   Hookah smoke contains many of the same harmful chemicals in traditional cigarette smoke, including:?? Carbon monoxideTarArsenicChromiumCobaltCadmiumNickelFormaldehydeAcetaldehydeAcroleinLeadPolonium 210, a radioactive isotope Some hookah tobacco products claim they dont contain  tar, but that information is misleading. The fact is, no tobacco contains tar until it is burned, or in the case of hookah tobacco, heated. This difference leads some to believe that the toxicity of hookah tar may be less than that of cigarette tar, which is not the case. Additionally, the charcoal that is used to heat the tobacco contains  carbon monoxide,  metals, and other cancer-causing agents like polyaromatic hydrocarbons, adding another level of danger to hookah smokers.?? Hookah vs. Cigarettes A typical manufactured cigarette contains between 7 and 22 milligrams of  nicotine, depending on the brand, with about 1 mg being absorbed by the smoker.  An average hookah bowl contains as much nicotine as a pack of 20 cigarettes.  Nicotine is an addictive drug, so smoking hookah can be every bit as addictive as smoking cigarettes.?? Smokers inhale 500 to 600 ml of smoke in the 20 puffs it takes to smoke a cigarette. If theyre smoking hookah, which is typically an event lasting 45 minutes to an hour, smokers inhale approximately 90,000 ml of smoke and take as many as 200 puffs on the water pipe.?? Compared to traditional cigarette smoke, hookah smoke has about six times more  carbon monoxide  and 46 times more  tar, and hookah smokers may take in more of these toxins because inhalation through the water pipe requires a stronger drag for a longer period of time. It has been estimated that a single hookah session can cause smokers to absorb approximately the same amount of nicotine and  other chemicals  as they would if they smoked two to 10 cigarettes a day, depending on how often they smoke hookah. Health Concerns Hookah smokers are at risk for many of the same illnesses as cigarette smokers,?? such as Oral cancerLung cancerStomach cancerEsophageal cancer Hookah use is also  associated with decreased lung function and  heart disease,  and it can have a negative effect on fertility. Secondhand smoke  from a hookah is also hazardous.  If youre in the room with a lit hookah water pipe, youre breathing in cancer-causing toxins just as with secondhand cigarette smoke.?? Hookah smoking can also spread illness.  Because it is usually smoked in a social setting, with several people sharing the same pipe and sometimes the same mouthpiece, colds and other infections, including oral herpes, can be easily passed along.??     A Word From Verywell Hookah tobacco is addictive and every bit as hazardous to a smokers health as traditional cigarettes. A one-hour session of hookah smoking can expose smokers to as much nicotine and toxins as they would get from an entire  day or more of cigarette smoking.?? In the short-term, hookah smoking raises blood pressure and heart rate, which may increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. In the long-term, hookah smoking can contribute to a variety of cancers, heart disease, and lung disease.?? The best thing you can do for your health is to avoid all tobacco products because none of them are considered safe. Dont be lulled into thinking that smoking cessation is something you can put off until later in life.  The longer you wait, the more you risk.  Luckily, there are plenty of resources and support systems available that can help you quit smoking for good. Mark Twains A Letter From Santa Claus

In 1875, Mark Twain wrote a letter to his daughter Susie, who was 3 years old at the time, which he signed Your loving Santa Claus. You can read it in its entirety below, but first a little bit of pretext. Twain was very close to his daughter, all the way up to her untimely death at age 24 in 1896, and that year she had written her first letter to Santa Claus. Twain, being a writer, couldnt stand for his young daughter to feel like her work went unheard, so he decided to pen the following letter to My Dear Susie Clemens from The Man in the Moon himself. The story has been widely shared since in anthologies as a cute reminder of the spirit of Christmas and the love of parents for their children, who year after year don bright red suits and leave out milk and cookies to keep the magic alive. A Letter From Santa Claus by Mark Twain My Dear Susie Clemens, I have received and read all the letters which you and your little sister have written me...I can read your and your baby sisters jagged and fantastic marks without any trouble at all. But I had trouble with those letters which you dictated through your mother and the nurses, for I am a foreigner and cannot read English writing well. You will find that I made no mistakes about the things which you and the baby ordered in your own letters—I went down your chimney at midnight when you were asleep and delivered them all myself--and kissed both of you, too...But...there were...one or two small orders which I could not fill because we ran out of stock... There was a word or two in your mamas letter which...I took to be a trunk full of dolls clothes. Is that it? I will call at your kitchen door about nine oclock this morning to inquire. But I must not see anybody and I must not speak to anybody but you. When the kitchen doorbell rings, George must be blindfolded and sent to the door. You must tell George he must walk on tiptoe and not speak—otherwise he will die someday. Then you must go up to the nursery and stand on a chair or the nurses bed and put your ear to the speaking tube that leads down to the kitchen and when I whistle through it you must speak in the tube and say, Welcome, Santa Claus! Then I will ask whether it was a trunk you ordered or not. If you say it was, I shall ask you what color you want the trunk to be...and then you must tell me every single thing in detail which you want the trunk to contain. Then when I say Good-by and a merry Christmas to my little Susy Clemens, you must say Good-by, good old Santa Cl aus, I thank you very much. Then you must go down into the library and make George close all the doors that open into the main hall, and everybody must keep still for a little while. I will go to the moon and get those things and in a few minutes I will come down the chimney that belongs to the fireplace that is in the hall—if it is a trunk you want--because I couldnt get such a thing as a trunk down the nursery chimney, you know...If I should leave any snow in the hall, you must tell George to sweep it into the fireplace, for I havent time to do such things. George must not use a broom, but a rag—else he will die someday...If my boot should leave a stain on the marble, George must not holystone it away. Leave it there always in memory of my visit; and whenever you look at it or show it to anybody you must let it remind you to be a good little girl. Whenever you are naughty and someone points to that mark which your good old Santa Clauss boot made on the marble, what w ill you say, little sweetheart? Good-by for a few minutes, till I come down to the world and ring the kitchen doorbell. Your loving Santa ClausWhom people sometimes callThe Man in the Moon

False Memories are Affecting Us All Essay - 1596 Words

Intro: What Are False Memories? Have you every specifically remembered an event such as going to a basketball game then you were reminded by someone that you didn’t go because you were sick or something. If so, you have created a false memory. The study of false memories began in the early 1990’s when people started to report â€Å"recovered† memories of abuse (Laney Loftus 1). To understand how false memories work, you first need a basic understanding of how the memory works. In general your brain stores memories in different ways depending on what type of memory they are. For example short term memories are most often stored in acoustic form but long term memories are stored by their meanings (Foster 3). Because of this, long term memories†¦show more content†¦Section One: The Debate over False Memories False memories have been studied science the early 1990’s because they have become controversial topic. In the beginning they was no thought th at your memory would be unfaithful and that if you had a memory that you â€Å"recovered† it had to be true because your memory couldn’t fail you. Could it? Well one woman’s disbelief caused her, Susan Clancy, who was a Harvard University graduate student at the time decided that while everyone else was arguing over the accuracy of recovered memories, she would create a study on them (Grierson 1). Clancy first started out by interviewing her subjects that said to have recovered memories of abuse after they had gone through therapy. The stories were horrifying but she was brought up to believe that what they were telling her was true. But, soon after she found herself wondering if they had even really went through these events that they â€Å"recovered†. When she spoke out against the recovered memory patients saying that they couldn’t of forgotten such a traumatic memory and that they had created a false memory by going to the therapy the hate ma il started coming in (Grierson 3). Throughout this time many other scientists started to do more and more research on false memories and most of the studies have concluded with the same information. â€Å"The false memory researchers point to other research showing that traumatic events are normally remembered all too well. First, I wanted to hone my talents and strengthen my inclination towards the medical field. The rapid winds send shivers through my body, I feel as if I am a fish. Swimming through the ocean waters No work, all play No worries to drown me. I swim; I jump, free falling into the ocean, I dig my feet deeper into the sand It clogs between my toes, feels rough upon my heels I look deeper into the sky, see the moon the sun a star. I close my eyes tighter to hear the sound of dolphins swimming Freely in the ocean I taste the air upon my lips, The wind takes me higher and higher Spreading my wings, flying with the wind Through the white fluffy clouds. I look down upon the world I live no work, all play No worries to pull me down. I fly, I sing, I triple spin through the sky, I open my eyes, here while I sit on the sand. Reality hits but I am still in dream land, No one can tell me how to dream, So I am nothing here but free. Poetry Essays
